Utterly captivating!
I totally agree with @CosmicRabbitCarma, I actually thought I was hearing Peter Lorre. Well done!
Francis Arthur puts in real work on his sciencey sounding explanation of ghosts.
This is a wonderful classic that really does deserve a lot more attention.
Thrilled heading into part two!
Grabbed my attention very quickly.
Love it. Thanks.
Your talent at reading these really adds to the quality of my daily life. Thank you so much.
The problem is that when I start listening to you work I just can't seem to stop.
Such excellent stuff you are sharing with us. Thank you.
Keep up the good work!
Much thanks.
Who comes up with a name like 'Dr. Satan'? Just that alone grabs my interest. Thanks for continuing to share these.
Cannot get enough. Please keep up the wonderful work that you are doing here.
Love the thumbnails, they really help set the mood. Thank you.
I'm not gunna lie, I should be working. And I kinda am. Kinda. But mostly I'm listening to this here ol' pulpy fun. Thanks.
If 'Pulp Fiction's WIERDEST Super Criminal' doesn't excite you to listen to this then there might be something wrong with you. Great stuff. Thanks.
Excellent. Thank you.
Hmm ... Not the brightest bulb in the box, that Bull Bayman. I could think of one or two similar creatures who could benefit from a shot of cyanide. Thanks, as ever, for the masterful narration.
Wow. I have just discovered your channel, and it's an extremely pleasant surprise.
Thank you Mr French! Always a shivery pleasure.
yeah more Robert Bloch please--he is so goooooood. A cut above!
You have such a wonderful voice for narration, and you pick awesome stories. Much love from Germany!
I love knowing I'm heard in faraway Germany. I'm guessing your English is a lot better than my German. Mein Gott! E.E.F
I'm such a huge fan of your readings, man. You're a hero for making these old stories more accessible, and a great curator on top of being a fine actor. Thanks for all you do.
It is my privilege and pleasure. Thank you for listening and being a member of "the evil army of the night." E.E.F.
It occurs to me that we faithful would love a live q and a with you. You've seen and...done things that bear discussion.
Are you referring to "bear" as in the chainsaw sculpted bear I restored at Fire Station 75 (If not, my comment makes absolutely no sense) ? I think we will eventually get into a "live" Q. & A. Perhaps as a part of a story reading. Cheers. E.E.F.
Hi everybody. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your work, most enjoyable. You would be perfect to read Robert Aickman's "Wood".
A pleasure. I think "Wood" has been suggested. I'll look it up. There might be a copyright issue with it. E.E.F.
Excellent little story, many thanks.
Wonderful narration...and wow what a story!!😅
Thanks. An UNCOMFORTABLE one, isn't it? It even creeps me out. (LOL) E.E.F.
I was just thinking about your narration of this story yesterday.
Hi everybody
Hello 👋
What a lovely surprise, Mr French. That's my bedtime listening sorted. You spoil us, which, in the UK, is most welcome as a much needed break from the General Election. Thanks, as always.
Cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo
Mr. French, if you are reading this, my daughter falls asleep to this every night.
Every night? Does she ever stay awake to hear the ending? It's kind of a grim bedtime story, isn't it?
@@FrenchEdward06 It is the tonality of your voice
Home sweet home. Jersey City and Ellis Island!
You know your old Dutch history! Good one! E.E.F
Love your readings!
Nice to hear that. I like compliments, but I'd accept criticism as well . There are now about 500 recordings . There are bound to be a few turkeys when you attempt this every week. Thanks for listening. E.E.F.
Thank you for replying! I agree wholeheartedly with you about criticism. ‘Constructive’ criticism is a positive gift to give to someone.
You could say Pluto's goose was cooked.
Washington Irving is in danger of being forgotten, which is a shame, as he is one of our founding literary fathers. No one now realizes that The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is as ghosty as many I hear on YT. The story is worth reading just for the chatacter of Gunpowder, the horse. Rip Van Winkle is a time travel/inter dimensional/fairy story and I doubt it makes anyone's list of early sci fi. Though it should. Thanks for this. Irving is writing about an area thay I'm familiar with and that was as important to the settlement of the north east as any joyless pilgrim's village. We should scrap Hawthorne and elevate Irving. Scrap F Scott Fitzgerald and elevate Robert Penn Warren, I could go on but people hate it when I do. Thanks again. 😏
Well, I wouldn't scrap Fitzgerald, Penn and Hawthorne, but I do like it when you "go on." Irving's fantasies are pleasantly seductive, but like Rip Van Winkle’s “wicked flagon,” they also have a powerful bite and many an author that came later were inspired by his stories. I like to think that he's making a comeback. Thank for tuning in. E.E.F.
I like the narration but hate the story. Idiot marries a bimbo who becomes a wicked step mother, and his kids pay the penalty for his rage and lust.
The way you inflected your voice there when you asked people to subscribe to yer channel is a trick manipulators use to influence their victims.
Splendid reading yet again!
Thanks. It's refreshing to return to the classics every once and a while. E.E.F.
It's late here in the UK, so I'm settling in bed to listen to a Sinister Saturday tale told in Mr. French's dulcet tones, as only he can. Thank you.
Thanks, my British fiend - er- friend for staying up for Fiction Fantastique. E.E.F
Oh what a great story to conclude a gorgeous Saturday afternoon! Thank you so much for taking this tale of the colonial past and bringing it to life for a new generation to enjoy!
I'll say in all modesty that Mr. Irving's prose is especially wonderful when heard aloud. His horrors aren’t likely to make you jump, but they might just keep you awake, or fill your waking life with strange dreams. Cheers. E.E.F
Thank you for another great reading!
And thank YOU for being a member of our "Evil Army of the Night" who listen. E.E.F.
Love your narration
Thanks!
You can sure narrate a tale, Mr French
😌🐿️ 🐾🐾 🐺🐺 thanks mr. ed .
Nice! The father was, indeed, a buffoon, not to have seen that one coming. Thanks, as ever, for the upload.
It's a GRIMM fairy tale, isn't it? It's also another one of those stories where the end could be re-written? Cheers. E.E.F.
The use of a giant centipede in an assassination attempt is identical to a scene in _Star Wars: Attack of the Clones._ George Lucas clearly loved these stories. They influenced _Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom_ too.
